Dixon University Center Focuses on Flexibility and Convenience - 6-13-08

Ribbon Cutting CeremonyIn a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dixon University Center today celebrated a $1.4 million renovation that includes 11 new multimedia classrooms. The renovations come at a time of rapid growth for the center.

As many as 11 colleges and universities statewide are expected to offer programs at the center in the upcoming academic year. Enrollment has reached 2,100 students -- up almost 24 percent from a year ago, Harrisburg Mayor Stephen R. Reed said today.

The history of Dixon's uptown campus as an educational facility goes back 100 years to 1908, according to the center. Reed said combined with other developments, Dixon's growth marks Harrisburg's emergence as a city of learning. "The city of Harrisburg has evolved into a center for higher education," he said.

York-based Buchart-Horn Inc./Basco Associates was the architect of the project. Dillsburg-based Lobar Inc. was the general contractor. "It's a facility that all of us can be proud of," said Judy G. Hample, chancellor for the Pennsylvania state systems of higher education.

Clarion University's New Master of Education Degree Coming Spring 2008

Are you looking for a program that considers the needs of a working professional and only requires 15 hours of direct contact time for each three credit graduate course? Disillusioned with the prospect of a total “on-line” program where you never see or have direct face to face dialog with the instructor or your fellow classmates? In cooperation with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit, Clarion University is offering a 30 credit Master of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

This will be a Masters program designed for the practicing education professional, those interested in an advanced education degree or for those individuals with education degrees interested in furthering their knowledge base. The program has an exciting and innovative approach that is geared to accommodate the stresses and strains encountered by today's professional educator. Classes will be offered as a combination of on-line and traditional class meetings. Students will meet on five dates throughout each semester at the Dixon University Center in Harrisburg.  Summer schedules will also be 15 contact hours but will be flexible on times and dates. The remaining course requirements will be fulfilled with on-line activities.

Interested? Contact Dr. Bill Williams at 814-393-2776. You can also visit the Clarion website for additional information at http://www.clarion.edu/academic/distance/index-cte.htm.
